The Housing Office was founded in 1992 in order to facilitate the housing for the guests of the University of Groningen (RUG) and the Hanze University of Groningen (HG). We used to be a foundation, funded by the RUG and HG. Since January 2010 the Housing Office is a part of  the housing association De Huismeesters in Groningen.

De Huismeesters/Housing Office is a non-profit organisation. The fees and rent paid by our guests do not fully cover all the costs. To manage our International Student Houses we still need a financial contribution from both the RUG and the HG. Also because during the summer months the rooms in our student houses are empty and we therefore receive no income.

The Housing Office is closely related to other housing associations in Groningen. We don't own any of the International Student Houses. We rent our buildings from these organisations as to manage and sublet them for our foreign guests.
