Frequently asked questions
Q: I already applied for housing at Housing Office, but I have not heard from you yet. What do I have to do?
A: Your application first needs to be approved by your contactperson at the University or Hanzehogeschool. This may take some time. As soon as we receive their approval, we will email you. If your are worried, please email your contactperson.
Q: I transfered money to you and received a confirmation of this payment. When will I get a room?
A: We can offer you a room between 2 months and 2 weeks before your arrival. If you are worried, please email us.
Q: Can I pay with my creditcard?
A: No, we are sorry to let you know that you cannot pay by creditcard.
Q: I am in Groningen now and I have accepted my room, but I would like to bedhop to another room. What do I have to do?
A: Always sign your rental agreement first as we can only bedhop you a month later (if your preferred room is available). Fill in a change form with your request for another room. This form can be found on our website.
Q: I will arrive on 30th of August 2010 to be on time for the introduction programme of my University, but my rental agreement starts on 1st of September. What can I do?
A: By exception in August 2010 it may be possible to arrive 4 nights earlier (=on Saterday 28th of August) before 1 September 2009. You need to email your student manager and ask if your room is available already. If not, you need to find a hotel and check in on 1 September 12.00 hours. Also you may not arrive earlier than 28th of August, unless you book a room and pay the rent from 1 August 2009. Per early night you pay € 10,-.
Q: I am to late with shortening my rental agreement. What can I do?
A: If you want to shorten your agreement, we need to know 1 month before. Otherwise we can not change your departure date and you will continue paying rent. Only in case of serious illness of yourself or serious illness or death in your family (first grade), we can terminate your agreement the same month.
Q: We are a group of students and we would like to live together. Is this possible?
A: Every student needs to apply individually. You may put your wish to live together on each application form and we will do our best to book rooms in one International Student House. It is not possible to rent a family house in the private sector with a group of students.
Q: You have booked a studio for me in the private market. Can I bring a friend to stay with me?
A: No, a studio is for 1 person only. If you come together, you need to ask for an apartment.
Q: Do I need insurance as your lessee?
A: You need to insure your own personal items during your traveling and staying in Groningen. Also take out a good third party liability insurance in case you cause damage to someone or something. Obviously you need to insure for medical costs.
