Van Houtenlaan is located in the South of Groningen next to a former hospital. The building used to be home to the nurses of the hospital next door. The building is 7 floors high and has two elevators. There are 148 single rooms, 1 shared room and there are 2 rooms for our 2 student managers. In total you live with 150 foreign students from all over the world. There is a small picnic area behind the building.
The 6th floor is only for phd/master students.
Per person there is a single bed with a mattress, a pillow and a duvet, a wardrobe, a table and chair, desk lights and waste bins. Sometimes there is extra furniture like an old sofa or side table left by other students.
There is one common room with TV connection. There is no TV connection in the student rooms.
Every floor has 1 or 2 small kitchens with cookers. Refrigerators and freezers can be found in each corridor at a central place. Every student has his own kitchen box with basic kitchen inventory like pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc. You are not allowed to leave these things in the kitchen as the kitchens are small. At the end of your stay your kitchen box should still be complete, so take care of your things. There are several units with showers and toilets in the corridors and there are washing machines and dryers available.
Bikes can be put outside below a roof, but there is also an inside bike shed. You can park your car for free nearby the building at a carpark.
Please note this student house is in the middle of a family area. Noise nuisance is not allowed at any time. Also organising big parties in the common room is not permitted.
You may rent a sealed bed linen packet, with a sheet cover, a duvet cover and a pillow case for € 18,50 per stay. You will pay this amount with your first month rent. The rented bed linen should be handed in upon leaving.

Rent per month from the first of August 2011 all in: single rooms between € 281,- and € 336,- and its shared room is € 263, - per person including wireless internet. Most rooms are small, only 9m2. There are a few bigger rooms between 15m2 - 24m2, including the shared room.
