Since two years Winschoterdiep is one of Housing Office biggest International Student Houses. The building used to be an office, but now more then 300 students live here. There are 308 single rooms, 15 shared rooms, 4 rooms for our studentmanagers and 1 guestroom. In total you live with 338 foreign students from all over the world.
The rooms are clustered in 4 blocks, AB ground floor and 1st floor and CD ground floor and 1st floor. Block AB first floor is especially for phd/master students. There is a big entrance hall with a reception area. For 4 hours a day (8.00-12.00 hours) on every weekday there is caretaker available for maintenance issues, the mail, cleaning, deliveries and all your questions. Apart from a caretaker, 4 student managers live and work in this building.
Per person there is a single bed with a mattress, a pilow and a duvet, a wardrobe, a table and chair, a bookshelve, sometimes an easy chair, a desklight and a wastebin.
There are several sitting areas spread throught the building. In most cases they have a television. There is no tv connection in your room. In the buiding there is one bigger social area, like a bar. Your student manager can book this for you for a small gathering. It may be used only a few times a month and nuissance because of it for other residents is obviously not tolerated. Furthermore there are several ''locked in'' gardens which are lovely to sit in when the weather is nice.
There is a no smoking policy in this buiding.
In total there are 13 kitchens, small and big, spread throught the building. They have cookers, fridges and freezers, ovens and sometimes microwaves. Every student has his own kitchen box with basic kitchen inventory like pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc. It is not allowed to leave these things in the kitchen. At the end of your stay your kitchen box should still be complete, so take care of your stuff. There are several units with showers and toilets in the corridors and there are washing machines and dryers available.
Bikes can be put outside in special bike racks or in a bike shed. Parking space is available for students, but you need to get a licence for it (not for free). Please note there are strict rules here with regard to noice nuissance (inside as well as outside!) as the building is big and so many students live here.
It will take you approximately 10 minutes to bike to the city centre and 25 minutes to Zernike University area.
Rent per month all in: single rooms of € 365,- and € 392,- and shared rooms between € 273,- and € 315,- per person including wired internet. Most rooms are quite big, around 25m2.
