Since 1 September 2009 we rent out 15 decorated and furnished (basic) appartments, spead out in a building originally for aged people only. The apartments are very near to our International Student House Plutolaan/Bisschop Nierman Centre. This is close to Zernike University Complex, around 5 minutes on your bike.

Each apartment is suitable for 2 students (of the same gender or a couple). In every apartment there is an entrance/hal, separate space for a washing machine, a kitchen, one wet room with a shower and a toilet, one room of around 22m2 and one room of almost 15m2. You need to cross the bigger room to enter the smaller room, but there is a door between the rooms (which can be closed, but not locked). So almost as a shared room. Both rooms can access the bathroom without having to cross each others room, though.

In each appartment there will be 2 single beds with mattresses, duvets and pillows, 2 tables for studying, 2 chairs and 2 warddrobes. There will be a desklight and a bin per person. Also you will find a cooker (electric), a fridge (with a small freezer included), a vacuumcleaner and a washingmachine. In the kitchen there will be some basic stuff like plates, cutlery, a mug, some pots and pans and some cooking gear. This stuff has been used before and is only there for your convenience to cook a first meal.

You may bring your own bed linen or rent a Housing Office bed linen package (duvet cover, a mattress cover, a bed sheet and a pillow case). Please let us know by email if you need a package from us or ask for it at our office when you come to pick up your keys and sign your rental agreement. Costs: € 17,50 for your stay. It is obligatory to use bed linen for hygienic reasons!

Most apartments have a small balcony. On the floor you may find carpet or lino and all apartments have curtains or blinds. Appartments could be on the first, second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth floor. An elevator is available. There is a bike shed per apartment and a mail box.

MOST IMPORTANT

The appartments are situated in a complex which originally was for senior (elderly) people only. Since last year (2009) the building is labelled also for 23 years and older. Most likely your neighbourgs will be be aged (>70 years), but the number of young, Dutch, working or studying people will grow in time. Obviously if you live here, it is very important that you respect all neighbours in the building, especially the aged population. This means no parties, no loud music (no noise after 22.00 pm) and no yelling and shouting in the corridors when you come home from the city centre in the middle of the night. Only students who are willing to respect these rules, will and can be selected for this type of accommodation. Also your neighbourgs may not always understand english, but remember ...... a smile is internationally understood!

There is no student manager responsible for these 15 individual apartments. This means that you need to come to our Office on working days between 9.00-16.00 hours to pick up the keys and sign a rental agreement. The rooms in these apartments are available from the 1st of the month (if this is a Sunday or a Saterday, you can only come the Monday after), starting at 12.00 hours.

Cleaning and extra furniture: You need to clean the apartment with your flat mate during your stay. You may put extra furniture in your apartment if you like, but please note that this should be removed again by yourself upon your departure!

Rent: € 375,- per person, per month including water, gas, electricity and Council taxes (or € 750,- per flat).

Please note: There is no internet and no television signal. All apartments have individual addresses, so you need to arrange your own internet connection and/or your own TV signal. You may go to the Phone House in the Herestraat (main shopping street of Groningen) for Ziggo or choose KPN as a provider. Read their conditions well!
