Our student house Bisschop Nierman Centrum used to be a home for elderly people. It is located at the Plutolaan - which is the name of the street - in the North of Groningen. It is very close to the Zernike University area. There are 57 single rooms, 6 shared rooms and 1 room for our student manager. In total you live with 69 foreign students from all over the world.

All rooms here are designated for phd/master students. Most of these students go to University all day during weekdays. Please make sure everyone can have a good night sleep, especially during the week.

Per person there is a single bed with a mattress, a pillow and a duvet, a wardrobe, a table and chair, a side table, desk lights and waste bins. Sometimes there is extra furniture like an old sofa or side table left by other students. Most rooms have access to a balcony. In this building shared rooms are actually 2 separate rooms behind 1 door. However to reach both rooms, you will have to pass through the other room.

There are 3 floors with a kitchen on each floor. In each kitchen there are cookers, refrigerators, freezers and cooking utensils (pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc.). All is shared per floor. Showers, washing machines and dryers are available per floor also. Most rooms (except rooms 311, 320, 321, 322, 323) have their own private toilet and a small bathroom (a sink with warm and cold water).

There is one common area per floor. In each common area there is a television, there is no TV connection in your room. Bikes can be put inside the building behind a locked door. Should you bring a car, you can park your car for free in front of the building. The building is suitable wheelchair users or less mobile students; the front door opens automatically, there is an elevator and some showers fit a wheelchair.

You may rent a sealed bed linen packet, with a sheet cover, a duvet cover and a pillow case for € 18,50 per stay. You will pay this amount with your first month rent. The rented bed linen should be handed in upon leaving.

It will take you approximately 10 minutes to bike to the city centre and 5 minutes the other way to Zernike University area.

Rent per month from the first of August 2011 all in: single rooms between € 364,- and € 425,-, shared rooms € 314, - per person including wireless internet.Most rooms with private toilets and a bathroom are between 25m2 - 30m2.
